How SBB CFF FFS & Swiss Panoramic Railways work

  • Clockface timetable (Taktfahrplan): SBB InterCity and RegioExpress trains depart at the exact same minutes past every hour (every 30 minutes on core corridors) with timed cross-platform connections across the country.
  • Seat reservations: domestic SBB InterCity and regional trains do not require seat reservations—just hop on any train on your route that day. Mandatory seat reservations apply only to flagship panoramic trains: Glacier Express (CHF 49), Bernina Express (CHF 32–36), and Gotthard Panorama Express (CHF 24).
  • Supersaver Tickets (Sparbillette): if you travel without a pass and commit to a specific departure time 1–60 days ahead in the SBB Mobile app, you can save 30%–70% off standard point-to-point fares.
  • Luggage onboard: all standard suitcases ride free in the carriage racks. Check locker sizes and SBB bag forwarding in our Luggage Size Checker.
